Okay, so I registered with Spotify today. Spotify is a service that let's you listen to their complete catalog of music (which contains music by all major-labels and a few indie-distributors)!
I thought i'd wait 'till they made their free ad-funded service available in Germany, but i just couldn't wait any longer. So now i pay 9,99€ per month for unlimited on demand streaming without any ads.
After registering and downloading the software the fun began. The software is very easy to use and the buffering is very fast (as soon as you click on a song it starts). It really feels like all the music is on your pc (or mac).
The thing that impressed me most was the feature to post a link to a playlist on the web and when your friends click on it the playlist appears in their Spotify software. And if you create a collaborative-playlist they can even change the playlist! How cool is that!? There are already some sites to share playlists. Try SpotyList! and Listiply.
But there are also a few things that i'm not really happy with. Their catalog is not as complete as i hoped it would be. Some very important indie-distributors don't seem to be onboard. Hopefully this will change soon. If Spotify wants to replace iTunes, i want all the music to be on it!
Yeah, and please allow scrobbling to my Last.fm profile. :)
So, in total, i absolutely love the approach that Spotify is taking and i'm sure they are working on improving the service every day.
Hopefully they'll add the ad-funded service in Germany soon, so that I can invite all my friends to join the party.
PS: Here's my first playlist.
